MIOMAP’s major
goal is to discover what kinds of biotic changes are triggered by climatic
or tectonic events, and thereby to:
Contribute
to evolutionary theory by clarifying the role of environmental changes
as a motor of evolution
Examine the
interplay between habitat fragmentation and faunal turnover to understand
the effects of global change
Decipher the
time scale at which environmental changes are most likely to cause
major changes in terrestrial mammalian faunas
