Shih-Yi is a graduate student whose research interest is in how plant communities reflect climate changes through time. Her previous research focused on vegetation assemblages on a cretaceous guyot in the mid-Pacific Ocean. She is working on plant-pollen collections and using pollen data from Clear Lake, California, to infer climate change through the last interglacial period. Main pollen types found in Clear Lake core samples are Pinus, Quercus, and Abies. She is also interested in the change of food selections of California honey bees and studying pollen loads attached on bee specimens from the Essig Museum.
