Marine Terraces Along the Santa Cruz County Coastline

1. Materials:

• Topographic maps *
  (for reference, one set per group)
• Photocopies of a section of each of the two maps
  (for coloring, one set per student)
• Colored pencils
• Background information and instructions

*The two maps used for this exercise show part of the California coastline near Davenport, just north of Santa Cruz (the Davenport topographic quadrangle has a 40-foot contour; the Santa Cruz has a 20-foot contour).

2. Procedures:

Divide students into small working groups and provide them with materials and instructions.
