the trilobite Pseudomera

With the image reversed, perhaps it’s easier to see that this is indeed a trilobite, though only the pygidium (tail) is preserved here. This specimen of Pseudomera was found in the Ordovician rocks of Inyo County, California. The trilobites dominated the Lower Paleozoic seas until they disappeared in the middle Permian, about 245 million years ago. Find out more about trilobites here.
